Problem: Timing Chain Failure
Models: 91 or later Saabs with a 2.3 liter engine
Notes: We have seen an inordinate number of failures in these
chains on cars with as little as 60,000 miles. When the chain
fails, the collateral damage can cost thousands of dollars to
repair. We are advising anyone with more than about 70,000
miles to replace their chain.
Volvo
Problem: Oil leakage
Models : All non turbo models
Notes: The flame trap should be
checked and cleaned at regular service intervals. If you have
an old style metal flame trap make sure and replace it with the new
plastic type. When this trap clogs up it creates excess
crankcase pressure which leads to leaking seals and sometimes will
even force the seal out of its housing causing a sudden and dramatic
loss of oil.
Lexus
Problem: Improper transmission fluid
Models : All
Notes : Should you need to add transmission fluid
to your car, please read your owners manual to ensure the proper
fluid is being used. Most of these cars use a proprietary
fluid available only from a Lexus dealer or specialist.
Toyota
Problem: Engine runs rich after an air filter change
Models : V6 engines
Notes : Sometimes when maneuvering the air
filter housing to replace the filter, the wire connector for the air
flow meter can become loose and cause the car to go into the
"limp home" mode. If your car doesn't seem to run
right after this change, check and secure this connector.
